The Big Dipper

The Big Dipper

At our general meeting on April 20, 2016, Bryan Shumaker, President of the Northern Michigan Astronomy Club, showed us some of his wonderful night sky photos, as he talked about comets, planets, nebulas, meteors and galaxies.  Listening to the accomplished night sky photographer, we learned among many things, including that there are over a 100 billion galaxies, our nearest star is four light years away, and a meteor the size of a pebble enters the atmosphere at a speed of 20,000 mph.

telescopeHis group has a night sky viewing event planned the first week of August at Raven Hill Discovery Center. For information on viewing events, star parties, monthly club meetings, photographs and Aurora Borealis forecasts, visit www.nomac.net
